Remote Control & Scale Battery Guide
Household remotes and scales are classic CR20xx and LR44 applications. When a scale reads erratically, voltage sag from a worn alkaline button cell is a common culprit — silver oxide can help.
Selection notes
- Replace all cells in multi-cell scales at once.
- Clean contacts if the device was stored with a leaking alkaline cell.
- Check whether your remote needs CR2032 or the thinner CR2025.

A CR2032 is a 3V lithium manganese-dioxide coin cell, 20.0 × 3.2 mm, typically 220–240 mAh (about 0.66–0.72 Wh). Fresh cells often measure 3.2–3.4 V. DL2032 and ECR2032 are brand labels for the same size. CR2025 and CR2016 share the 20 mm diameter but are thinner and not drop-in replacements. Do not use rechargeable LIR2032 (~3.6–3.7 V) unless the device is designed for it.
CR2025 is a thinner 3V lithium coin cell with the same 20 mm diameter as CR2032 but only 2.5 mm height and lower capacity (~160–170 mAh). Many slim key fobs specify CR2025 — do not assume CR2032 will fit.
CR2016 is the thinnest common 20 mm lithium coin cell at just 1.6 mm height (~90–100 mAh). It is popular in ultra-slim remotes and some key fobs where CR2025 or CR2032 will not fit.
LR44 is one of the most searched button cells worldwide — an 11.6 × 5.4 mm, 1.5V alkaline cell also sold as AG13, A76, 76A, or LR1154. Silver oxide SR44/357 fits the same holder and is the better upgrade for watches and meters.
AG13 is one of the most searched alkaline button labels online. It is the same 11.6 × 5.4 mm, 1.5V cell as LR44, A76, and 76A — not a different chemistry.
AAA (LR03) is the compact sibling of AA at 10.5 × 44.5 mm.
AA (LR6) is the world's most common cylindrical battery size at 14.5 × 50.5 mm.
The A23 (also sold as 23A or MN21) is a compact 12V alkaline cylinder (~10.3 × 28.5 mm) used in garage remotes, doorbells, and older keyless-entry transmitters. It packs eight tiny button cells in series inside one can — high voltage, modest capacity.
Frequently Asked Questions
My scale flickers with a new LR44 — why?
Some precision scales prefer silver oxide SR44/357 for flatter voltage. Try a silver oxide cell if alkaline causes unstable readings.
What battery does a garage door remote use?
Many garage and doorbell remotes use a 12V A23 (23A / MN21) cylinder — not a CR2032 coin cell. Open the case and read the printed code before ordering.
How long do CR2032 batteries last in a household scale or remote?
Often months to a couple of years. Flicker or short range is the usual replace signal; confirm the cell is CR2032 and not a thinner CR2025.
